Prism Design began with Barry and Sally Milburn, accomplished designers who have dedicated over 45 years to the international jewellery industry. Their passion for jewellery led them to establish Prism in 1980, where they designed and developed their own-label collections, bespoke services, and iconic brands including Ti2 Titanium, Contour Shaped Wedding Rings and the Milburn & Ley Collection.
Barry and Sally’s journey began at the renowned Central St Martin’s College in London. They initially ran a small studio near Carnaby Street, crafting bespoke jewellery for individual clients. This early success led to the opening of their first retail outlet, “Scarab”, in Sevenoaks, in collaboration with Chris Pye and Jim Robinson of Simbol, whose support proved invaluable.
Sally’s talent was recognized early on when she won a De Beers student design competition, leading to her ring designs being produced by Cartier. The Prism brand also received a notable boost from Clive Billings—“The Diamond Geezer” of Dragons’ Den fame—who championed Prism in the industry and introduced it to the trade, where it was met with a very positive reception.

She brings a fresh perspective to daily operations, company standards, and sustainability initiatives, along with an added boost of creative energy.
Originally from Newcastle, Barry studied at Central St Martins, where he met Sally. Together, they discovered a shared passion for jewellery design—a passion that remains just as strong 34 years later. Barry finds inspiration in creating new designs, while sailing and long-distance walking bring him both pleasure and challenge, pursuits he enjoys as often as possible.
Sally is delighted and proud to lead such a talented, creative, and positive team at Prism Design. She loves generating new ideas, finding inspiration, and designing alongside her husband, Barry—though there’s never enough time in the day to bring all their ideas to life! She often wishes she could pause time, slip downstairs, and spend a moment at the workbench creating something herself.
Tony has a deep passion for history and, if not crafting jewellery, would likely be an experimental archaeologist. He takes pride in keeping ancient techniques alive, such as the lost-wax casting process used at Prism, which dates back over 6,000 years. Perhaps in later years, he envisions the opportunity to role-play in historical reenactments, marching alongside figures like Caesar or Napoleon!
Aimee has been designing and creating jewellery for 18 years, specialising in pieces inspired by nature, the sea, and her travels. She has been honoured with eight jewellery design awards, with her proudest achievement being the Lonmin Design Innovation Award in 2006. In her spare time, Aimee enjoys travelling, learning about other cultures, and walking her dog, Apple.
Mark completed a five-year apprenticeship as a goldsmith and has been crafting jewellery for 36 years, creating both traditional and contemporary pieces. He enjoys a relaxed lifestyle and has lived on a canal boat for the past 18 years, recently fitting out a new boat for cruising along the Kennet & Avon Canal. Mark also has a passion for winter travel to distant destinations.
Michelle studied at the School of Jewellery for two years before embarking on a months-long journey to Africa with a friend. Upon returning to her hometown, she joined Prism, where she has enjoyed both design work and hands-on bench and engraving tasks. In her free time, Michelle loves cooking for friends, attending music festivals, and, most of all, travelling the world.
Hayley finds great joy in seeing a piece of jewellery come to life from start to finish, and even after 19 years in the industry, it’s a thrill to spot someone wearing her work. Some of her closest friends are her colleagues; Mark even crafted her engagement ring, which she describes as perfect. Hayley dreams of visiting Nashville with her fiancé, Rik, and their children, Ronnie and Nuala, to experience the music and cowboy boots firsthand.
Abi grew up by the seaside in Dunbar, Scotland, bringing a distinct Scottish-farmer accent to the Prism team. A true perfectionist, she brings meticulous attention to every aspect of her life, from home presentation to her work as a stone setter—a skill that demands patience and precision. Abi began her apprenticeship at Prism in September 2011 and has specialised in stone setting ever since.
Ruth has been with Prism for six years and truly enjoys the happy, positive, and creative atmosphere of the team. She loves spending time with her husband and daughter, and in her spare time, she plays golf and enjoys holidays in Cornwall, bodyboarding, and skiing in the French Alps. Weekends are often spent walking her dog or cycling along the canal towpath.
Chris is the Sales and Business Development Assistant at Prism. With 13 years of experience building a small business as a musician, tutor, and practitioner, Chris now uses his networking skills to connect with both new and long-standing customers.
